One of the few street art/mural festivals in Northern California is back and kicking off this week! From August 8—18, 2019, the Wide Open Walls Art Festival in Sacramento will once again host a group of local, national and international artists to paint all across the City of Trees. Where last year saw the likes of Shepard Fairey paint his iconic ode to Johnny Cash's At Folsom Prison 50th anniversary, this year's line-up will feature a selection of artists, screenings, shows and panels, as Wide Open Walls begins to widen their scope and create a more inclusive and in-depth festival.

Some of the highlighted artists on our radar this year include Mars-1, Axel Void, Hoxxoh, Jillian Evelyn, Kristin Farr, Jessie and Katey, Alexis Diaz, Lauren YS, RISK and a huge group of local Sacramento and Northern California artists who have grown into friends over the years. See the line-up here.

Apart from the murals, there is a list of EVENTS happening each day, including August 11th, where there will be the West Coast premiere of Selina Miles's outstanding documentary on the career of Martha Cooper.

Also note that Juxtapoz will be hosting a special panel on public art festivals on Thursday, August 15, including a conversation with organizers from POW! WOW!, Wynwood Walls, Murals in the Market and Wide Open Walls. More details here.
