The Cabin LA presents the latest oil paintings by the Los Angeles-based artist Kendra Kummerer. Kendra's works are on display through the month of September.
The paintings are created with oil paint squeezed out of a frosting bag then a texture similar to a tapestry is created by a repetitive up and down motion. The imagery of the figure posing is appropriated from historical paintings and put into a new scene. This creates a new narrative for the male gaze, taking images of women painted by men and repainting them as a woman. This takes a look at women’s identity in art and in society. The rainbow colors and naive imageries are an extension of the artist's playful personality and inner world. —Kendra Kummerer
