In the past few years, Mike Lee has let us in more than ever. When we first began writing about the Brooklyn-based artist's work, there was a technical quality to the work that mimicked his work in animation. It was near digital in its execution, but in the last few bodies of work, there was an emergence of life, of something that resembled life being lived. And as these background and figurative elements began to appear more familiar, there was still a coldness, a sort of "Severence" type atmosphere that is both stunning and jarring. There is permanence and memory in the works, an absence of detail but something so brutally engrained in a personal narrative. It's a dream world, but something hypnotic and not quite easily recognizable. With Homecoming, Lee's newest solo show at Jason Haam in Seoul, the moments are fleeting, as if dreams created for our future self. —Evan Pricco
