I've always wanted to spend time in the universe of Sophie Treppendahl because of the way she uses color. So it seems apt her new show at Jack Hanley in NYC is titled, Chromotherapy. There is a density to the color, a richness of life that seems almost other-worldly, but somehow the perfect balance of color. A reality. For me, when I see a painting by Sophie, and the way she uses a red, it is the exact way a red looks in my dreams. The same with blues, or oranges. She paints the colors the way they should exist, like the definition of a color. So when she combines that beautiful use of color with these rooms and still-lifes and sleeping nudes, it feels all like the perfect dream, the peak of sense. —Evan Pricco
