Finnish photographer Mikko Takkunen captured one of the world’s greatest metropolises emerging from the aftermath of political protests and on the precipice of the pandemic.

Inspired by the New York School's masters like Faurer, Stettner, and Leiter, he presents Hong Kong in a novel light, exploring hidden perspectives and moods, resulting in photographs that balance between documentary and subjective. Amidst the city's uncertainties in 2020 and facing the impending relocation of his family overseas, Takkunen felt an urgent need to document the city while he still could. His photographs became a poignant farewell, encapsulating his love for Hong Kong and concerns about what might be lost as the city undergoes irreversible changes.

Hong Kong is published by Kehrer Verlag.
