Even though the show came down this past weekend, we wanted to give another look at the Philip Guston 1969 – 1979 exhibition at Hauser & Wirth, 22nd Street, in NYC. As you may know, this is the work that Guston is mostly known for, made after a major transition from abstract expressionist works to these more figurative paintings. At the time, these were not critically acclaimed, but over the dedcades have come to be appreciated as the highlights of Guston's career and a major body of work for American art. Many of these works, in their almost comic book-style and politically biting commentary, influenced so many of the artists we cover today, from Eddie Martinez to Trenton Doyle Hancock. —Evan Pricco
