“I live on Earth at present, and I don’t know what I am. I know that I am not a category. I am not a thing – a noun. I seem to be a verb, an evolutionary process – an integral function of the universe.” – R. Buckminister Fuller. And so, pt 2 Gallery presents Call It What You Want, a solo exhibition illustrating Bucky’s words with a new series of paintings and drawings by Kellen Chasuk.

The artist, who lives and works in Oakland and attended Pacific Northwest College of Art and the San Francisco Art Institute, reflects on daily life and its inevitable, accumulated anxieties through an amused, down to earth lens. She paints what you see when you rub the sleep out of your eyes in the morning and amble down the hallway to make a cup of coffee. In flat, bold color, she makes indelible those people and things.

From Chasuk:
"In my work, I look at the in-betweenness of things. This show is a conversation around an unattainable answer. Most of life is an ambiguous feeling or unnamable experience, these works are considerations of how my experiences are influenced by time. Painting itself is a negotiation and a way to measure time, the building of layers indicates and marks the things that surround me."

Call It What You Want opens at pt. 2 Gallery on August 10th, with an opening reception from noon to 10 pm and an artist talk at 4 pm, and is on view through September 6th, 2019.
