First Amendment Gallery opened two new shows this past Saturday, In The Quiet, a solo exhibition of paintings by Roan Victor, and Lust for Luck, a solo exhibit of paintings and drawings by Dan Hampe

Dan Hampe
For each image, Hampe aims to capture each moment in the painting process as he adapts and reacts to the painting’s intuitive nature.

Stylistically, Hampe utilizes imagery reminiscent of the Golden Age of Western Comics applied in a bold, industrial manner, bringing images in and out of focus in a collage-like manner. These images appear blurred and sometimes deteriorated, suggesting lost and taken opportunities in his process. These shifting directions memorialize the temporary process, allowing each to live on in relative permanence.

Roan Victor
Shapes and forms
change with light.
From different perspectives
they grow and they bend.
A semblance of the present.
Some parts are exposed
to share and to offer.
And the rest held tightly,
wrapped up, kept
in the quiet.
