The 1st Art Macao Marks China at the Epicenter of the Art World
As southeast China grows more and more as the major epicenter of the world's art market, their proverb that reads, "Art evokes empathy and culture connects people," resonates mightily. Art Basel Hong Kong has become such an important week on the art world's yearly calendar and the 1st Art Macao, a half-year long art initiative in Macau about an hour away from HK, continues major momentum in Asia in the scope of contemporary art. 2019 has been a major year for Macau, celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, as well as the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region. The kick-off to Art Macao will feature the biggest names in contemporary art, including some of the most innovative artists we cover, as well.
What started in June 2019 will carry through October 2019, with numerous art installations, events, and artists contributing, from KAWS's Good Intentions to installations at the Wynn Macau hotel featuring Edoardo Tresoldi and Juxtapoz IG favorites MAD Architects and Refik Anadol. We'll keep you updated on the various events popping up in Macau for the extent of the program, but keep in mind that are over 41 events at 48 different locations breezing in, with many works of public sculpture. We look forward to sharing more on Macau this summer and beyond!
