It's incredible that in an era where words, the ability to read and comprehend the world around you is of the most importance with so many political and social crises happening at once, we have spent less and less time... with words. We live in a new era of the image, and yet we have increasingly needed the words to begin to heal the wounds of separation and strife, and maybe most vital, understanding.

Hashimoto Contemporary is pleased to present A Sign of Times, a pop-up exhibition curated by Anne- Laure Lemaitre in which 17 text-based artists reflect on our times. The show will be on view at their NYC space from Decemver 9—13, 2020.

As the gallery notes: "In this moment, solitude and the scarcity of human touch have made words as a means of understanding one another—and the world we live in—more important than ever. However, we’ve also been challenged in our trust for their ability to be an authentic vector of clarity and truth.

"A Sign of The Times presents artists whose practice includes lettering at its core with the simple premise of freely exploring their relationship to this peculiar moment. Ranging from traditional media to digital animation and weaving, the resulting artworks span from intimate self reflections on isolation to outwards social commentaries. Their unique approaches offer earnest and personal contemporaneous takes on a confusing chapter still in making."

Participating Artists: Vincent de Boer | Faust | Henry Harper | Georgia Hill | Elizabeth Johnson | Ben Johnston | Greg Lamarche | Chris Martin | Wael Morocos | Franck Pellegrino | Anastasios Poneros | Pref | Roids | Victor Roman | Gary Stranger | Trevor Wheatley | Zipeng Zhu
