Lukaza Branfman-Verissimo is a queer, Jewish-American, African-Brazilian artist, activist, educator, storyteller and curator who lives and works in Oakland, CA. Branfman-Verissimo’s work is informed by her commitment to craft and community, her engagement with society, and interests in storytelling and cultural geography.
As part of our ongoing series and partnership of art therapy and tutorials with If You Were Here Now, we had a chance to catch up with Branfman-Verissimo on a short video on how to make envelopes to stay in touch with one another. "Let's make mail together!," she sayys. "Let's make envelopes out of scrap paper! Let's transform anything into mail art for our loved ones! To relax and get my mind of off things, I make packages and envelopes and mail art for friends and loved ones who life far away and in my city. Suggested materials: scrap paper/newspaper, tape or glue, stamps, pen, scissors."
