Banksy gives an ode to the legendary graffiti artist Jean-Michel Basquiat ahead of the much anticipated "Basquiat Boom for Real" at the Barbican in London opening this week.
In what the artist called an "(unofficial) collaboration with the new Basquiat show," the first piece is a portrait of a famous Basquiat artwork being greeted at the museum entrance by London's Metropolitan Police. The second image depicts a ferris wheel ride with the iconic Basquiat crowns and a queue of people waiting to take the ride. On Banksy's Instagram, the caption reads, "Major new Basquiat show opens at the Barbican - a place that is normally very keen to clean any graffiti from its walls." One to always make sure the pioneers of graffiti and street art get properply honored, this is a clever nod to one of the greats, and probably a nice extra marketing push to the show.
