Sablo Mikawa was born in Saitama Prefecture. Influenced by early modern and modern paintings, he is known for his dramatic oil paintings of modern things, including virtual reality such as manga and movies. Sablo’s characters have grotesque effects applied to their faces and bodies, emphasizing their character, inner self, and silhouette, which are different from those of living people. These effects are inspired by Sablo’s beloved Western paintings, movies, music, manga, etc., and are sampled and incorporated into his works to express what he sees and feels in the present day.
"In this exhibition, Too Much Mystery at Moosey Norwich, the stories and emotions I encounter in my personal life are reflected in my works. The exhibition will mainly feature works on the theme of nature and people, which I have been pursuing for a long time, and the Fireman series, which is an anthropomorphic representation of emotions faced with difficulties and mysteries. In the process of creating the paintings, I have incorporated into my works the state of my own mind, which goes back and forth between various emotions and undergoes a spiritual journey. I hope you will take this opportunity to come and see the works." —Sablo Mikawa
