Last week in New York, JR and Jose Parla opened their collaborative exhibition “The Wrinkles of the City, Havana” at Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery. The two traveled and created murals in Cuba the previous year, and this exhibition showcased the work that was made. 

As if being in jail and being watched every moment was not enough, artist JR has made sure that the almighty eye will be watching over you. Invited to install work at Rikers Island in New York, JR took photographs of inmate’s eyes and pasted them in three different locations around the complex. The artist spoke on this project saying, “We just pasted the eye of another Inmate on the 2 South Building of the Rikers Island Jail in New York City. He wanted me to choose his eye looking left as life in jail is all about watching your back... He came out in the jail Yard when we were pasting. He's 18years old, it's his second time in…

"This fascinating documentary tracks the evolution of the world's largest participatory art project, the wildly popular "Inside Out." Travel the globe with French artist JR as he motivates communities to define their most important causes by pasting giant portraits in the street, testing the limits of what they thought possible. In capturing the process, Alastair Siddons creates a glowing testament to the power of the image and the role that art can play in transforming lives." JR and Jose Parla first collaborated last year in the streets of Havana, Cuba and now they have just completed a mural on the posh walls of Chelsea, Manhattan. The two will be showing together next week on May 7 in a show entitled “The Wrinkles of the City” at Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery in New York. This particular wall reminds us of similar collaboration esthetics such as when The Mac and Retna worked together.

This past weekend, JR continued his international series, Wrinkles of the City, at an opening in Berlin at Galerie Henrik Springmann. The show comes on the heels of JR completed numerous mural and street pieces in Berlin over the past few weeks.

Famed French photographer/wheatpaster, JR, is seen here working on a new large mural in Brooklyn. It appears that the piece might just be one eyeball staring off in the distance, a simple non-intrusive image.  More information  and completed photos soon.

Working on his continuous Inside Out Project wheatpaste photographer, JR, over the weekend acquired some prime real estate on the High Line in New York City.  A popular tourist attraction, the High Line was once an abandoned section of the New York Central Railroad that was recycled into an urban park spawning huge real estate development in the area.

It has been over one year since our May 2012 cover artist, JR, won his TED Award and gave his declaration to create a worldwide, public art photo project, Inside Out. Now, TED has released a video recapping the 2011 year winner JR and showing the man's speech about Inside Out's progress. An inspirational viewing.

Fusing two distinctively different styles and mediums has been highly beneficial, and impactful for artists JR, and Jose Parla. The two are currently decorating numerous walls in Havana, Cuba for JR’s ongoing project The Wrinkles of the City that has visited multiple cities over the last year. Incorporating Parla’s work has changed the overall look of the project, bringing a refreshing esthetic.
