It's been three years since featuring the Spanish street interventionist we met during the 2016 Nuart Festival in Stavanger, so we're happy to see SpY shifting gears and producing more mind-bending work. He recently took part in the fifth UrbanArt Bienniale at the Völklinger Hütte in Germany, where he made a piece to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Moon landing.

During the fifth UrbanArt Bienniale, on the site of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and industrial monument in Völklinger, SpY created two works exhibited alongside images, installations and interventions of urban artists from around the world. Opening the event, the Madrid resident conceived a performance piece marking the fifth anniversary of the Biennale, which includes around 120 works by 100 artists from 20 countries on a 100,000 m2 course, on view until November 2019. By installing smoke bombs atop an industrial chimney, he reactivates old ironworks with colorful exhaust pouring from the smokestack inactive since 1986. Additionally, he revisited his 2013 piece, Cameras, and fashioned CCTV, a circle-shaped installation with shiny security dummy cameras stop the rusty surface of the industrial plant.

Later on, he teamed up with Urvanity fair and introduced Luna, a sculptural reproduction of a first-quarter moon installed on the construction crane of the fifth tower of the Caleido complex in Madrid. Joining the symbol of human creative force and a glowing 9-meter replica of Earth's satellite, SpY composed a poetic connection marking the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, one of humanity's greatest accomplishments. On view July 20th for one night only, Luna shined out among four towers, a beacon beaming across the city. Sasha Bogojev
