With John Seal opening a solo show at Harkawik in Los Angeles last week, we wanted to dedicate today's A Portfolio to the artist's last few body of works. His new show, Single Landscapes, expands on his photoreal, concise depictions of nature, a sort of subtle ode to the LA-based painter's home state. The idea to paint landscapes, all the same size, all at different times of day, it's quite a stunning practice.

Los Angeles-based artist John Seal creates works that both isolate and integrate objects, experiences, and events in order to reexamine their relationship to each other and to their environment. Often combining disciplines such as painting, sculpture, photography, and installation, Seal’s artworks take on an illusionary quality due to his use of thick impasto, trompe-l’oeil, and a vibrant spectrum of color. His work has been exhibited extensively in the US and abroad.
