Last week, we announced that Apple Music has unveiled a brand new playlist artwork series, one that sees a return to album artistry that has been all but forgotten in the era of streaming. Apple's head of content design, Alex Grossman, in conjunction with Apple Music editorial team, have spent the last year working closely with some of the most prolific and talented graphic designers, artists and typographers in the world to create bespoke art that conveys the intention and meaning behind Apple playlists without ever reading the descriptions and make you feel before you ever hit play.

We asked Carlos about the art behind the Dale Reggaeton playlist:

"The challenge of designing a cover for a playlist lies in the fact that it visually represents a collection of songs by various artists; it is not a collection of songs from one specific artist you may have directly collaborated with during their musical process. The creative process for a playlist cover becomes broader in the exploration, yet more specific in the execution. When designing for different playlists you have to unselfishly disconnect from who you are and become each audience, internalizing who they are and what they connect to. There is no right nor wrong way to do it, but ultimately the design needs to feel authentic to the audience. Anytime a client like Apple values where you come from culturally, respects what you bring to the table and sets you loose, the creative process becomes more genuine, less tainted. It’s about the art first."
