Music Video: Action Bronson "Easy Rider"

Music // Thursday, August 21, 2014
We have a close Juxta-family connection with Action Bronson, and when we caught a look at his newest video for the track "Easy Rider," a video that pays homage to the 1969 Peter Fonda/Dennis Hopper film, we pretty became convinced that Action is having the most fun in the music industry at the moment. Directed by Tom Gould and coming off the upcoming LP, "Mr Wonderful," ... enjoy.

Music Video: Arcade Fire "You Already Know"

Music // Monday, August 18, 2014
Arcade Fire have turned most of their support of their last LP, Reflektor, into an ongoing art project. Stage personas, TV specials, lots of masks, etc. Seems only appropriate then for their newest music video for 'You Already Know," the band can be seen shooting what appears to be a slightly higher budget selfie video with talking/singing paintings. We approve.

Flying Lotus Previews "You're Dead!"

Flying Lotus is a huge favorite in the Juxtapoz office, and it seems like the Southern California-based musician has always emphaszied a great deal on his companion artwork for all the music he makes. OnOctober 6/7, Warp Records will release "You're Dead!", the new LP from Flying Lotus featuring Herbie Hancock, Kendrick Lamar, Captain Murphy, Snoop Dogg, Angel Deradoorian, Thundercat, Niki Randa and more. FlyLo previews the album with a psychedelic journey, a "shamanic pilgrimage into the psychedelic unknown of the infinite afterlife." As he notes, "The album isn’t about the end, it’s really the beginning...". Let's get there.

Juxtapoz @ Outside Lands 2014: Woods "New Light"

Music // Wednesday, August 06, 2014
As you know, we are once again heading to the Outside Lands Music and Art Festival in SF this weekend (August 8-10, 2014), and while most people are getting ready for Kanye, Arctic Monkeys, Tom Petty, Lykke Li, Death Cab, or The Flaming Lips, there are a few bands of note playing in the afternoons that we are the most excited about. Woods would be one of those bands. They have always kept the DIY aesthetic true to their hearts, and we love their new video for "New Light" animated by John Andrews. Go see them on Sunday, August 10 at 1:10pm on the Sutro Stage. And get their new LP, With Light And With Love.

Music // Wednesday, August 06, 2014
For a music video this is sheer brilliance, instant perfection, and damn fine entertainment. Ian Robertson directs Oliver $ and Jimi Jules song "Pushing On" into a instant classic. A simple idea, shot beautifully for an upbeat catchy tune.

Spoon's new LP, They Want My Soul, was released today. We think its one of the top 5 albums of 2014, and to celebrate Britt being in the mag, the album coming out, there is a great collection of Todd Baxter's photos that made the cover of They Want My Soul being used for the video of one of the album's highlights, "Inside Out." Go watch.

Music Video: Beck "Heart is a Drum" directed by Sophie Mueller

Music // Wednesday, July 30, 2014
Just recently we got back into listening to Beck's 1996 epic "Odelay", and found that his 2014 album "Morning Phase" was quite nice as well. But the reason we are here today is because the very talented Sophie Mueller directed a video for Beck's "Heart Is a Drum" track. Black and white, a little eerie, and for the best track on the album all makes this a nice watch.

Madlib Invasion: Madlib Lecture in Sao Paulo, 2002

Music // Tuesday, July 29, 2014
Back in 2002, before Madvillainy, before Champion Sound, before the first volumes of Beat Konducta, Madlib travelled to Sao Paolo where he gave a shy but insightful and inspirational lecture at Red Bull Music Academy. In this session he reveals the secrets of his choice equipment, a $300 sampler. He says, "Anyone could do it. You just gotta use your brain." We say, "That's some brain."

Sam Falls Pixel Crunches EFG's Singing Bridges

Music // Monday, July 28, 2014
Sam Falls’ video for EFG’s “Singing Bridges” delivers masterfully deconstructed slices of sewn together Spaghetti Westerns while psych-rockers Imaad Wasif (vocals/guitar), Josh Garza (drums) and Tom Biller (bass) channel classics of their own: pristine echoes of Bowie, The Cure, Blue Cheer and Jesus & Mary Chain, all woven meticulously into the fuzzed-out track. For the world's dystopian love songs, the sounds of EFG, coupled with Falls’ manipulation of iconic, ‘deinterlaced’ analog films, does not disappoint. So adjust your speakers accordingly and watch the Technicolor trip to the badlands here.
