Converse Blank Canvas: Jason Jägel

Former Juxtapoz cover artist Jason Jägel is the latest artist to participate in Converse's Blank Canvas project, featured on the back cover of our July 2015 issue. A longtime friend of the magazine, Jason helped interview Madlib and illustrate the cover for our August 2015 "Alter Ego" issue. More recently, he held a one day "Doomsday Show" at the Rappcats space in Los Angeles featuring paintings, prints and a limited run of individually hand-drawn CDs for Madlib's Mind Fusion African Earwax mix. 

New Wall by Pastel in Spain for the Milestone Project

Pastel recently completed this wall in Girona, Spain for the Milestone Project. Located in Font de la Polvora a gitane neighborhood where they use the public space as a extension of their homes. The site identity is an important element because it is a community living of habits and traditions. In front of the wall is a very thin river where some wild plants gow and the animals drink water.

New Curiot Mural in Montreal

Curiot has been busy so far this year with exhibitions worldwide and one show in SF, the Mexican artist has also had time to paint some murals. The most recent was in the Mural Fest in Montreal where once again doesn't use his traditional style and creates a piece with a more limited color palette making a wall that seems influenced by some Mexican textiles.

Qbic Mural in Istanbul

Prolific Russian artist Rustam Qbic recently spent some time painting a new mural for Mural Istanbul festival. After working 7 days on a 4 story building, he completed this fantasy-like colorful piece titled "Miracle". Celebrating motherhood and the wonder of bringing new life, this mural was inspired by his personal experience of a father-to-be. Usually focusing on positive messages and universal values. this work is a classic example of his symbolic, surrealist style he's been developing for the last couple of years.

Remed & Okuda in Malaga, Spain

The European duo collaborated again on a mural, this time was in Malaga, Spain for the MAUS project where local and international artists will paint some buildings of the city. Remed and Okuda created "La Danse De Venus Et Du Marin" where they combined their distinctive styles making a colorful piece with perfect shapes. 

Dan Witz Teams up with PETA for D.C. Installations

December, 2013 Juxtapoz cover artist Dan Witz is yet again teaming up with PETA for a series of installations in Washington DC to draw attention to the plight of baby monkeys subjected to cruel psychological experiments at NIH. If you look closely at the next metro stop, you may spot a tiny, mournful face peering from behind prison bars, hands reaching towards freedom...

New Murals by Conor Harrington, ROA, Borondo, DALeast, Maya Hayuk and HuskMitNavn

The 5th show on Søren Solkær's SURFACE world tour opened Friday, June 12 at Øksnehallen in central Copenhagen. This exhibition covers a 3.500 square meter area and features 122 portraits in large formats. The portraits will be hung in a network of "streets" - resembling walls of an imaginary city. In the week leading up to the opening, six international and highly esteemed artists were invited to create large-scale murals in the streets of Copenhagen. The artist are: Conor Harrington (UK), ROA (Belgium), Borondo (Spain), DALeast (China), Maya Hayuk (US) and HuskMitNavn (DK). They all produced murals in the Vesterbro area of Copenhagen, that is also the home of the exhibition venue. 

ARYZ in Detroit with Library Street Collective

Last month, while we were in Detroit covering the huge Shepard Fairey mural and exhibition with Library Street Collective, another famed muralist, the great ARYZ, was working hard on a fantastic piece with the gallery right by the Fairey work. The former cover artist and Spanish artist put together a soldier-themed piece in his signature style. Joe Russo captured the process for us, and ARYZ gave us a few photos of the finished product. 

Nychos’ “The Deepest Depths of the Burrow” @ Castro Theatre, SF
