We have been celebrating our special Madlib cover story on the site and through all of our social media channels all week, and we get to have a little fun playing with all of Madlib's projects over the years. Today, we look at the work Madlib has done with DOOM and Madvillain, and the fantastic superhero character that came out of the classic Madvillainy LP. And yes, that LP is 10 years old this year. In 2007, the Cornell Hip Hop Collection was established through a foundation gift from Johan Kugelberg, who donated his collection of materials that he’d gathered for the 2005/2006 traveling exhibition “Born in the Bronx – A Visual Record of the Early Days of Hip Hop” and the 2007 Rizzoli publication of the same name. Now, the show has opened at Boo Hooray in NYC.

He tends to do these things... shoot album covers and promotional material for some of the best musicians of the moment. Lana Del Rey just released her second LP, Ultraviolence, and Neil shot the cover as well as a bunch of great shots surrounding the album.

Not only is he known as a versatile musician, Madlib has led a career of alter-ego art direction and created a cast of characters that are important pieces in his canon. Of course, Quasimoto comes to mind first, and Jeff Jank's legendary character design provided a context to Madlib's musical vision.
