We have worked with both Portugal. The Man and Mike D's Beastie Boys in the past (the latter an entire issue earlier this year), and we loved that both Mike and the Portugal guys teamed up for a remix of their "Modern Jesus" track. And, we just saw, there is a music video... enjoy some Sunday tunes...

This past Wednesday, Juxtapoz attended a special benefit and auction hosted by Flea and Anthony Kiedis, all to benefit the Los Angeles area Silverlake Conservatory of Music. Past Juxtapoz featured artists Thomas Campbell, Retna, Shepard Fairey, Gus Van Sant, Ed Ruscha, and many more were in attendance, with art up for auction to support the school as well. To make it even better, Neil Young and the Red Hot Chili Peppers performed. All and all... a good cause and good night. Here are some of the shots...

Sadly, we feel like a major chapter in the world of art and music passed away yesterday with the death of legendary musician and member of Andy Warhol's inner circle, Lou Reed. Fronting the influential Velvet Underground (house band of Warhol's Factory) as well as a successful solo career, Reed was an icon of NYC, and of rock culture at large.

A brilliant use of 30 minutes of your day would be to watch this documentary on electronic music, "What the Future Sounded Like," a great find from our friends over at TWBE. "Post-war Britain rebuilt itself on a wave of scientific and industrial breakthroughs that culminated in the cultural revolution of the 1960’s. In this atmosphere was born the Electronic Music Studios (EMS), a radical group of avant-garde electronic musicians who utilized technology and experimentation to compose a futuristic electronic sound-scape for the New Britain."

Following a performance at the Hollywood Bowl and prior to one at Treasure Island Music Festival here in San Francisco, Thom Yorke's Atoms For Peace released a new video for the opening track of their album Amok, "Before Your Very Eyes." Watch Yorke crumble in a flowing stop motion river of, well, you sort of have to watch it for yourself...

We were recently reminded (thanks TWBE) of this fantastic 1973 animation Keiichi Tanaami did for John Lennon's Oh! Yoko! and felt obliged to brighten your morning with it! Tanaami has been on the site a few time as of late, he is one of the great Japanese pop and psychedelic artists of the postwar era!

Chris Cunningham is a visionary music video director, creating visuals that can potentially outlive the music its made for (although the music of Aphex Twin and others is quite good and longlasting in the mind). Warpaint is a band of 4 women from Los Angeles that make melodic art rock music. Cunningham followed Warpaint for two years and the result is Love Is To Die, a documentary of sorts that we have a teaser for today...

Painted, directed, and created by Lauren Gregory, Toro Y Moi's new video "Rose Quartz" is entirely stop-motion oil painting. It's a fun techinique that we've seen in several music videos over the last few months. Enjoy it after the jump!
