Music Video: Yo La Tengo's Animated "Ohm"

Music // Wednesday, July 10, 2013
Yo La Tengo is one of the last true American indie bands from the heyday of the 1990s that is still together, making excellent music and putting on a fantastic live show. They also have a bit of fun with their image, and recently had "Simpsons" writer Donick Cary direct an animated, bizarre video for the track "Ohm", with animation done by Sugarshack Animation. The video follows a classroom instructional on what Yo La Tengo is. And there seems to be psychedelics involved, but that is just a guess we have.

Watch: Phoenix's "Trying to be Cool/Drakkar Noir" by Canada

Music // Tuesday, July 09, 2013
The popular French band Pheonix's video for "Trying to be Cool/Drakkar Noir" is directed by Canada. Everything in the video is shot in-camera while crews rushed to make sure each cut flowed into the next. Watch it in awe after the jump...

Ari Marcopoulos for Jay Z's "Magna Carta Holy Grail"

Music // Wednesday, July 03, 2013
We aren't even sure what a Magna Carta Holy Grail is supposed to be, but it sounds like its competing with whatever a Yeezus is. If you have a Samsung Galaxy, maybe you are preparing for your July 4, 12:01am listening session with Jay Z's new LP of both religious and democratic implication (and for the record, we got thrones, yeezuses, Magna Cartas, and Indiana Jones over the past 18 months from Jay and West), but for the rest of us, we have to wait for the 9th of July. In the meantime, we can verify that indeed, street, skate and fashion photpgrapher Ari Marcopoulos has shot some of the imagery for Jay's album.

Music Video: The Pixies "BAGBOY" directed by LAMAR+NIK

Music // Wednesday, July 03, 2013
No Kim Deal is a big DEAL, but the Pixies will live to see another day, mainly through a huge fanbase and the talents of Black Francis. So here comes a new Pixies track, "Bagboy" and a brilliant odd video of teen angst and summer suburban fun. It feels a little stadium rock, but the Pixies version. And Kim's vocals basically make this a fun romp. Oh, and the video is really well done, directed by Lamar+Nik.

Music Video: Cass McCombs "Morning Star" directed by Patrick O'Dell

Music // Monday, July 01, 2013
Throw some skate on it. We love a good Cass McCombs tune, and we love a good assemblage of skate footage put together by Patrick O'Dell any day of the week. And so here we are, on a Monday, and we are getting both together in one music video for McCombs' newest track, "Morning Star," which will be featured on his upcoming LP. Let us enjoy now...

Music Video: Nine Inch Nails "Came Back Haunted" directed by David Lynch

Music // Sunday, June 30, 2013
By the way, we are again curating the art portion of the annual Outside Lands Music and Art Festival in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park this summer. We bring this up now because Nine Inch Nails, the comeback version, will be headlining one of the nights. So without further ado, we want to show you the new music video by NIN, "Came Back Haunted," directed by the legendary and consistently interesting and progressive David Lynch. This video could cause a seizure, dance party, industrial hangout session, or just plain listening pleasure. Trent Reznor never looked so blurry.

Music Video: JJ DOOM “Bookhead” directed by Steve “ESPO” Powers

Music // Thursday, June 20, 2013
Two of our favorite things, all in one visual. Steve "ESPO" Powers directing MF DOOM's new project, JJ DOOM. The 2x Juxtapoz cover artist teamed up with the now London-residing DOOM and his newest collaboration with Jneiro Jarel to give a video of the track "Bookhead." The video depicts our Saturday nights: corner liquor store, then reading a bit of Chaucer at the local library. Listening to DOOM. They read our mind...

MOCAtv's First "The Art of Punk" Episode Focuses on Black Flag

Music // Friday, June 14, 2013
In this excellent debut episode of their "The Art of Punk" series, MOCAtv dissects the art of the legendary Black Flag, from their iconic four bars symbols, to their coveted and now collectable gig flyers, singles, and band t-shirts. The distinctive Indian ink drawn image and text featured on most of these was all by none other than Raymon Pettibon. We've been on a art in music kick lately due to our special Beastie Boys issue and this is a wonderful video on the group's commitment to art, featuring interviews with Raymond Pettibon as well as Flea, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Henry Rollins.

Watch: Madlib Interview @ Medicine Show Live in London

Music // Friday, June 07, 2013
It's no secret that the Juxtapoz office is a big fan of Madlib. In fact, we may or may not be attending his Welcome to Zamrock show tonight in San Francisco... As it's rare to see an interview with the man and he has gotten us excited about the prospect of new Quasimoto, Madvillain, and J Dilla has an unreleased Jazz album? We thought we would post this video by Tom Stokes of Madlib, aka Quasimoto, aka Beat Konducta, aka DJ Lord Such, aka.... at the Medicine Show in London!

Music Video: Breakbot "Baby I'm Yours" watercolor extravaganza

Music // Tuesday, June 04, 2013
Music videos have become a prominent part of what we do here on the Juxtapoz site because a ton of artists we know and enjoy have been getting work in animating, stop-motiong, or directing some of the best videos out there. We haven't seen a good watercolor video this year, or ever, but this video for Breakbot's "Bay I'm Yours" single is comprised of over 2000 individual watercolor paintings, composed by Irina Dakeva at Wizz Productions. For you counting at home, 2,000 is more than a lot.
