All month long, in conjunction with our Beastie Boys special issue, we have been asking some of our friends about their favorite BB's memories. The other day we talked to Jeremy Fish, and today, we spoke with Amsterdam-based Parra about his experience growing up with the Beasties. As we expected, there is skateboarding involved... 

Sakke Soini is a freelance digital artist, graphic designer, and illustrator based in Helsinki, Finland. While attending business school he realized he was spending more time perfecting his PowerPoint presentations than on his school work, so after graduating with a BA in international business in 2006, he decided to switch gears and pursue a career in graphic design. Soini draws his inspiration from the brightness of Japanese pop culture, science fiction movies, electronic music, and the 1980's in general.

One of our favorite street artists, Valencia, Spain-based Hyuro, has completed a mural in Copenhagen, Denmark in conjunction with her solo show at ArtRebels from May 24th through June 15, 2013. In/Between will feature 17 original drawings highlighting Hyuro's interest in human interiority and the female body, often in relation to animals and natural elements. The exhibition is a subtle reflection on identity and freedom, both individually and collective. The items exhibited are all paper drawings of artworks that Hyuro has created as street pieces all over the world. All photography and information from our friend, Henrik Haven. 

Last month, Old Boot – Further Adventures in Comic Abstraction opened at Silwex House for a very short 3 days.  The group exhibition curated by Lucas Dillon in collaboration with Gallerie Goldstein, included work from artists Horfe, Petro, Ken Sortais, Lucas Dillon, Murray O’Grady and Russel Maurice. We found some photos of the brief lasting exhibition that had a diverse selection of work.

Thought your disco ball was cool? Artist Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen created a series of four mannequins decked out in shards of mirror for her exhibition Mobile Mirrors at Christian Larsen gallery in Stockholm, Sweden. "The mirror surfaces of the mannequins turn our gaze back onto ourselves, forcing us to become aware of our own bodies and consumption habits..."

In the early 1960s a Belgian advertising dropout, Guy Peelaert, created his childish and witty comic The Adventures of Jodelle. Fantagraphics recently released a newly-translated collection of the comic, featuring an in-depth look at the artist who managed "to transform a previously save medium into something exciting and dangerous."

For his MFA Computer Art Thesis at School of Visual Arts in NYC, Daniel Sierra explored and visualized "waveform patterns that evolve from the fundamental sine wave to more complex patterns, creating a mesmerizing audio-visual experience in which sight and sound work in unison to capture the viewer's attention." Nike is kicking off the summer season with not only a new campaign of re-releasing some of the classic Nike Air Max styles with the limited edition Sunset Collection, they are making it a hunt for those in SF and NYC. On Thursday morning, May 23, Nike Sportswear will launch the Air Max Hunt, and by night, a select few in San Francisco and New York will go home with  limited-edition packs from the Air Max Sunset Collection.

We were pretty sure that the Darth Vader hot air balloon was the pinacle of dream hot air balloons...until we saw this: Patricia Piccinini's Skywhale hot air balloon. Are there more custom hot air balloons out there? We might have to do some research on this... How about the house from UP? Who’s with us? Jabba the hutt? The possibilities are endless... One entry into the competition for designing a new Miami bayfront park, submitted by VisionDivision, is meant to symbolize the good life experienced in beach side Florida. "The grid shell exterior is clad in glass that mimics the sun at daytime, its skin reflecting light and gradually shifting its colors during the day, creating spectacular sunrises and blazing sunsets for the park, while at night time it transforms into a half moon." We're into it. The future is here.
