Opening this Friday March 1st in San Francisco, The Popular Workshop is proud to present Self Help, new work by Ben Barretto (Australian b. 1985). Self Help continues Barretto’s ongoing exploration into recursion; with each of the series of works he presents ‘making’ themselves to some extent. That is, the chosen material and its inherent properties inform the process and drive the work into a constant loop of feedback.

Ryan Travis Christian, who we featured in the January 2013 issue, just opened a brand new exhibition, Well, Here We Aren't Again, at CAM Raleigh in North Carolina. In his twisted, humorous, surreal early Disney inspired works, Christian has really captured a lot of attention in recent years for both his works and talent as a curator. The work is on display through June 17, 2013.

Lalla Essaydi, a New York-based Moroccan painter and mixed-media artist recently devoted herself to photography, exploring the image of women in Islamic society. The result, this very cool series entitled Harem in which her subjects are wrapped in robes which echo the decorative Arabic tiles and patterns that wall the incredible interiors.
