The 62 acres of auto repair shops and salvage yards that make up Willets Point, Queens has changed very little over the past few decades unlike much of everything else in New York. Many people would like to see Willets Point stay that way but a 3 billion-renovation effort geared towards the area says otherwise. Photographer Thomas Prior (featured in our current issue) has been visiting Willets Point since going to Mets games as a kid and began documenting it’s grimy conditions and community starting in 2012. His project that has compiled an already vast number of beautiful images will only grow as Prior intends long-term documentation of the area as the inevitable changes occur.
