The work of Kyler Zeleny
Kyler Zeleny is a self-proclaimed ‘Canadian visual sociologist’. An engaging thinker and photographer, the title may explain his interest in addressing space, environments, and consciousness. His ongoing series of landscapes are created with a modified film camera, twisting at the center of the image where the direction of the landscape reverses. This effect compresses the scene, making each image look particularly distant. The landscapes vary between urban and rural subjects, each feeling nostalgic and reflective, no pun intended.
Zeleny studied political science as well as photography. He is a guest editor with the publishing house The Velvet Cell, who helped launch his first monograph this summer, entitled Out West.
