Photographer and skateboarder Devin Briggs hails from Huntington Beach, California. He approaches friends and strangers with an equally intense curiosity, collecting for viewers the visual grit of punks, dogs, and the fight at corner-store. Stark black and white 35mm images, scenes of Southern California and graphic, balanced compositions are evocative of the late 60’s work of Lee Friedlander. Briggs seems to have witnessed several more car-crashes than the average 20-something, and with bold photographic evidence reminiscent of Weegee’s crime scene photographs.
Devin’s printed work can be found through Deadbeat Club, “an independent publishing group dedicated to the production of small run & limited edition publications dedicated to contemporary photography”, with group shows and zine releases held in primarily in the South Bay area.
