\r\n\tPhotographer Taryn Simon<\/a>’s body of work entitled Birds of West Indies <\/em>pulls inspiration from a 1936 taxonomy publication of the same name by American ornithologist James Bond, who also happens to be the individual that Ian Fleming based his famous secret agent character James Bond. In her images, Simon searched for and photographed items from James Bond movies, which ranged from props and vehicles to actual Bond girls. Her search to locate her subjects spanned across Europe and the United States with items from private collections, museums, and auction houses. The result is a collection of images where Simon has photographed each individual subject in a way that ornithologist James Bond would have documented his birds. Birds of the West Indies <\/em>is opening at the Gagosian Gallery<\/a> in Beverly Hills on February 27, and will be on display until April 12, 2014.<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\tIt’s not hard to spot the photographs of Brooklyn–based photographer Brian Finke. Bright, crisp, and merged somewhere between traditional documentary and narrative art, Finke captures moments heightened by unprecedented access. His award-winning works 2468: American Cheerleaders and Football Players<\/a>, Flight Attendants<\/a> and Construction<\/a> allowed us to peer inside personal worlds outside of our own; tears on the playing field, life at 30,000 feet and an inside look at the 2010 crash of the construction industry. His 4th monograph—a series that looks at the activities of United States Marshals<\/a>— is due out on powerHouse Books in the Fall of 2014.
