\r\n\tInterested in creating compositions of objects that have nothing to do with one another, Brooklyn-based photographer David Brandon Geeting<\/a>’s recent book Infinite Power<\/em> is a collision of intrigue, repulsion, confusion and adoration. The monograph, comprised of truly clever object assemblages and portraits, is an unpredictable journey from cover to cover. Featuring a woman with her face covered in cucumbers, overripe bananas, marbles resting in (peanut butter? refried beans?), lighters framed in aluminum foil and more, each page evokes a different reaction. What’s clear about the images, is Geeting’s desire to take risks and push his own boundaries. “If the time comes that I feel 100% comfortable in what I’m making, I’ll know I’ve failed” he said in an interview with WILD.<\/a> “I try to stay unsure of myself at all times.”<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\tMark Wolfe Contemporary is pleased to present “Fifty Years of San Francisco Street Photography, 1965-2015″ an exhibition of never-before-seen images from veteran street photographers Maury Edelstein<\/a> and Ted Pushinsky<\/a>, the City’s reigning elder statesmen of the genre.<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\tSan Francisco has undergone convulsive, disruptive change over the past five decades, from the dawn of 60s counterculture, through the current decade’s housing and gentrification battles. Perhaps more than any other U.S. city, San Francisco seems to exist in a perpetual state of tumultuous flux. Upon closer examination, however, it is clear the human soul of the City is much the same as it ever was.<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\tThe photographs in this exhibition offer a compelling visual document of this paradox. Working entirely separately since the early 60s, Edelstein and Pushinsky have captured hundreds of candid images from the City’s streets, parks, buses, and front stoops. The selections on view at Wolfe Contemporary testify to the notion that although the cars, clothes, hairstyles, and skyline may have morphed radically over the decades, the people are still the people.<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\tMaury Edelstein (born 1930) still lives within walking distance of Chinatown, North Beach, Downtown, and is a short bus ride to the Mission District. He began taking pictures in the 1950s, and continues to take photographs every day. Ted Pushinsky (born 1946) has been making photographs in San Francisco for over forty years. The two had never met or encountered one another’s work until this show.<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\tWith less than 2 days remaining, photographer Benjamin Freedman<\/a> is raising money through a Kickstarter campaign<\/a> to self publish a photobook of work he created during a residency in a remote town in northern Iceland. The book, titled “Observations of Foreign Objects”, uses abstraction and found objects to create a fictional sci-fi narrative about a lunar phenomenon in an isolated small town. Freedman explains on his Kickstarter page, “As a medium that boasts power and authority, photography remains a complex tool that inherently elicits the truth while simultaneously hinting at the possibility of fiction. These images, constructed using rocks found from the surrounding landscape, are playfully rearranged and photographed within the context of a scientifically ambiguous narrative”. The book also includes a fictional short story written specifically in dialogue with the images by Australian playwright Emma Gibson.<\/p>\r\n
