While in the Cloud Forest of Costa Rica, photographer Pat Swain began documenting the grey, moody landscape and experimenting with digitally placing the Costa Rican flamingo within it. Being a bird that exclusively resides in beach-like environments, Swain created a narrative for these “lost” birds who have been struggling to survive in a habitat that is foreign to them. Through the use of exaggerated vignettes, Swain emphasizes their solitude within the often misty and isolated landscape.
