In "Genesis," photojournalist and social documentarian Sebastião Salgado declares, "my camera allowed nature to speak to me. And it was my privilege to listen". Salgado, it turns out, is one brilliant listener. As his eight-year enterprise composed of over 32 trips around the world culminated with a stunning "love letter to the planet" entitled "Genesis", the divinity he manages to capture bespeaks a pure appreciation for nature and his surroundings. Arranged in five chapters, the work is a departure from Salgado's previous photography that explores the socio-economic plights of various cultures. Instead he fearlessly captures some of the most beautiful and expansive locations in the world, from the rocky shores of the Zavodovski and Visokoi islands to the breathtaking beauty of the Siberian Arctic. The resulting book takes a life of its own, imbued with natural, exquisite beauty from cover to cover."Genesis" is currently being exhibited in Porto Alegre through May 12th.
