"DFNQ-B" by Alex Christopher Williams

July 13, 2015

DNFQ-B is a collection of images by American photographer Alex Christopher Williams. Named for the series of trains taken to get to Coney Island, the works explore the emotional and mental space which draws people to the water, and specifically, New Yorkers to the hyper-saturated ocean neighborhood. Featuring oiled and sagging beach bodies, children flirting with the edge of the water, lonely scuba divers, and lost treasure hunters, Williams presents a diverse look at the people who populate the sandy shores. “I initially went to Coney Island as effort to find a safe haven from the rest of New York but quickly became in love with the people there,” he says. “It's one of the few spots in New York City that still has that authentic and raw feeling that’s unlike anywhere else.”
