Capturing Storms with Mitch Dobrowner

July 03, 2014

Mitch Dobrowner creates photographs of immeasurable storms in the American Midwest and Southwest. Between 2005 and 2014, Dobrowner traveled to the plains rendering stormscapes in various states, some of which are home to notoriously destructive tornados. With small reminders of our human presence dotting select frames, The Storm Series forces a sense of looming urgency upon viewers unfamiliar with the honest threat of these natural conditions,

From his artist statement, “Landscapes are living eco systems and environments. They have existed well before, and will hopefully be here way beyond the time we are here. When taking photographs, time and space seem hard for me to measure… and I obtain a respect and reverence for the world that is hard to communicate through words.”

Mitch lives in Studio City, California with his wife and two sons. His work is represented by GADCOLLECTION in Paris, Kopeikin Gallery in Los Angeles, and the Storm Series can be located at various other galleries in the United States.
