Opening December 1st, Over The Influence will be showing Remains, a solo show by famed artist, Vhils, featuring all new body of work dedicated to Hong Kong and its inhabitants. After the impactful Debris installation at Pier 4 back in 2016, this will be artist's first gallery exhibition in Hong Kong.

The new pieces created for this showcase were both inspired by, and constructed, in Vhils' Hong Kong studio. Strongly stimulated by the city's recognizable feel of contemporary megalopolis, the works explore the effect of the city environment on humans, and vice versa. Through various techniques and mediums, the Portuguese-born artist is portraying both the city itself, as well as his inhabitants. From using local advertisements, photographs of the urban landscape, carved wooden doors, acid-etched metal plates, styrofoam dioramas, and hand-carved billboards, the pieces are reflections on how individual identity is both formed and affected by the city's elements, especially when seen in context of passage of time. The entire show is a direct result of Vhils' past two-years living in Hong Kong and time spent in Asia, which clearly has had a significant impact on artist's identity and work. —Sasha Bogojev
