Bilbao's very own SC Gallery recently opened Resistance X, a large group show curated to celebrate their 10th anniversary. Including works by some of the biggest and most respected names from the contemporary urban art world, as well as gallery's personal favorites, the exhibition shows a wide range of talents and types of works presented in the past decade.
One of the mainstays for the international recognition and success of a couple of artists such as Axel Void or Sebas Velasco, who had their first major shows in Bilbao, gallery founder Sergio García Bayón felt like this was the right moment to introduce both a strong lineup of Spanish artists along with a solid presence of international names. Including works by 29 of the 50 artists that showed in the same space, the exhibition includes a variety of different techniques, visual languages, and subjects that the artists are focused on. From portrayals of urban spaces by Sebas Velasco, Paco Pomet's surreal imagery, Axel Void's earnest observations, Mikel del Rio's masterful oils, Ana Barriga's vibrant and playful compositions, Franco Fasoli's paper collages, all the way to Isaac Cordal's small-scale sculptures, Remed's calligraphy, Grip Face's graphics-based pieces, Sixe Paredes' abstract watercolors, or Nano 4814's quirky sculpture assemblages, the show is a wonderful overview of the state of the urban art scene both locally and globally.
At the same time, the gallery put together a small reel that shows some of the biggest public art projects they've produced over the years, including some milestone pieces by the likes of Aryz, SpY, Zoer & Velvet, Eltono and more. —Sasha Bogojev
