Over The Influence in Hong Kong is currently showing New Mosaics of Ravenna, a series of new and original works by Invader, created on the covers of his latest book. The show opened on October 14th and will stay on view through October 24th presenting each of the 25 pieces from his 7th invasion guide.
Invader visited Ravenna for the first time in 2014, after an invitation by the Ravenna Art Museum and Marte Cultural Association to develop a project in their Italian city. This resulted with a large piece on Planetarium of Ravenna, along with a series of smaller mosaics installed through the city, unofficially. The invasion continued with a "tailor-made" mission one year later and resulted with the total of 40 pieces contributing to his ongoing global and universal takeover. Each were documented in a newly published map, and photographed for his latest book.
The pieces were inspired by Ravenna's long history of Byzantine mosaics, and paying respect to these ancient masters, a lot of these pieces featured popular iconography and landmark images such as mermaids, doves, sun patterns, portraits of royal couple Justinian and Theodora. Following his similar actions in major cities such as LA, Hong Kong, Rome, London or Miami to name a few, the eccentric Frenchman created a fresh series of originals on book covers along with releasing the original run of the book. The new originals are all re-worked images of actual pieces installed in the city, further adapted to a new format and color scheme. In the meantime, Parisian Le Musée en Herbe once again extended the duration of his Hello My Game Is show until 7th of January 2018. —Sasha Bogojev
