Andrew Hem brings a gorgeous new full-color mural to Providence, Rhode Island for The Avenue Concept's ongoing mural project entitled "Influx."

Born during his parents’ flight from Cambodia in the wake of the Khmer Rouge genocide, Andrew Hem grew up between the rural animistic society of his Khmer ancestors and the dynamic urban art scene of Los Angeles. Fascinated by graffiti at an early age, he honed his skills with graphics and composition on the walls of the city before following a passion for figure drawing at the Art Center College of Design.

Hem’s interest in building community through storytelling resonates with The Avenue Concept’s vision of enriching Providence with art and design that engages the community and promotes positive dialog. “As an organization, we value work by artists that encourage viewers to revisit the work and the environment,” says The Avenue Concept’s executive director, Yarrow Thorne. PVDFest audiences are encouraged to make their first trip to this new work during the festival weekend.
