Josh Sperling continues not only a fantastic run at Perrotin's spaces across the world, but he continues to have one of the most active careers of the artists we cover in both print and online. Fresh off of his show Big Time at Perrotin New York, Sperling has headed across the Pacific for a summer showcase at their Tokyo space, aptly titled Summertime. The show consists of Sperling's unique canvas painting sculptures, as well as a large-scale sculpture mural on the gallery's main wall.

To create his works, Sperling begins the process working with graphic design software to generate digital tiered forms that are then physically fabricated from plywood by an automated hi-tech router, ensuring a degree of perfection unattainable by hand. Sperling stretches swaths of canvas over the resultant forms, then chooses a decidedly manual process to paint the surfaces and eschews digital techniques of coloring in favor of the nuance offered by traditional hand-mixed paints.

Summertime will be on view through August 10, 2019.
