Sanaz Mazinani @ Asian Art Museum, SF

March 30, 2015

Curator Marc Mayer invited artist Sanaz Mazinani to create a new, site-specific installation at San Francisco’s Asian Art Museum, on view through May 3, 2015. In the artist’s words, “I make large photographic collages that use images relating to the destabilizing effects of war to dissect and puncture our normative experience of the original source. In exploring visual language through a process-insensitive method of creating original patterns, I strive to make sense of media images and how they define our relationship to war.” Juxtaposing images like Paris Hilton next to a female suicide bomber, Mazinani questions public identity and critiques media representation. Her installation at the museum includes collage, sculpture and video work.
