Punched, Stomped, and Crushed Model Buildings by Erwin Wurm

March 11, 2013

Austrian artist Erwin Wurm punches, crushes, and kicks clay models of known and unknown buildings. The pieces, part of an exhibition entitled Wittgensteinian Wittgensteinian Grammar of Physical Education at Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac in France, are then cast in bronze, acrylic, and polyester and some are even coated in sliver or gold-plating. The buildings include prisons, warehouses, psychiatric clinics, and bunkers. The model of San Quentin State Prison has been slashed and Alcatraz has a hand-dug hole in the side of it.
