Opening to a packed crowd on Friday, October 21st, Detroiters got a first look at dynamic new works from Kevin Lyons with his latest solo exhibition Baker’s Dozen alongside new works from Detroit’s own Ellen Rutt, who create an immersive installation for Getting In Shape.
For his exhibition, Lyons paid homage to lauded Detroit producer J Dilla and his iconic “Donuts” album showcasing 31 new works to match the 31 tracks. In addition, Lyon’s signature Monster characters shined brought with huge washes of color filling the gallery as DJ Dez filled the gallery with classic tunes throughout the night
Dynamic Detroit artist Ellen Rutt also showcased new work alongside Lyons with a solo exhibition of her own. Her latest works on paper lined the gallery walls and intertwined in her immersive and interactive installation featuring loud colors and fun swirling shapes that invited viewers to fall into her hypnotic paintings.
