Photographer Ben McNutt focuses on the sport of wrestling. Specifically, McNutt’s photo work stems from a sense of eroticism that comes from the physicality, tensions and acts featured in the sport. Society generally views wrestling as masculine and unquestionably heteronormative, despite the intimacy that is portrayed amongst wrestlers. In order to more thoroughly understand the attachment and performances pertaining to the sport, McNutt himself began training and interacting with wrestlers to gain a better idea of what it is all about. McNutt challenges the standard culture of wrestling through history, interestingly displaying classic works in a different, more sexualized interpretation.
