"Us Stop" by Julien Tatham

January 25, 2016

French photographer, film director, and visual artist Julien Tatham’s goal is to reveal “the extra-ordinary of the ordinary” in public places — something that he wholeheartedly achieves with his photo series “Us Stop” (an intimate portrayal of various bus stops and the humans who circulate them).

The images are deep and multi-faceted, and the murky glass adds an element of anonymity and privacy to the subjects, thus removing any question of the invasiveness of his work. Surprisingly, Tatham shoots solely on smartphone, and the freedom of carrying such a lightweight device makes up for any other setbacks he might have from a lack of professional equipment. Us Stop manages to make a public space private again, but without losing the beauty of community.
