Every February the small Mexican town of San Juan de la Vega erupts with a testosterone-fueled commemoration of a four-century-old battle. Gathering on a desolate soccer field, hundreds of local men strap homemade potassium chlorate fertilizer based explosives to the heads of sledgehammers and slam them against lengths of steel rail. Through the ensuing anarchy of over five tons of detonated explosives, plumes of phosphorous smoke, and deadly flying shrapnel, photographer Thomas Prior captures the chaotic beauty of ritualistic bravado.

Thomas Prior's newest publication Bomba documents this unique event and a signing for this release will be held at Dashwood Books this Thursday, December, 8 2016 from 6-8 P.M.
