Austin Shafkowitz is a New York-based documentary photographer studying at the School of Visual Arts. Growing up traveling and his mother being a photographer, his interest in photography manifested at a young age.
After a skateboard related injury he was given a camera and began to photograph his friends. Austin’s work is a document of youth culture, and an observation of life in the places he visits. His influences include Ed Templeton, Mike Brodie, Jim Goldberg, Ara Oshagan and Danny Lyon.
