Photographer Anna Shimshak explores themes of beauty, ecstasy, and devotion in her series exploring those devoted to Catholicism. Her international photography project includes subjects from Switzerland, India, and the United States. Her photographs, at times, appear to capture private moments, or iconize people by presenting abstracted versions of their bodies.

The pieces, she claims, are not documentary truth, but fictionalized metaphors that draw on the authenticity of the subjects’ identities.
