In his series The New #West, photographer Aaron Brumbelow created silver gelatin contact prints of picturesque landscapes that you won't find anywhere on earth. Taking screen captures from popular video game Skyrim: The Elder Scrolls, Brumbelow turned these scenes into transparencies mimicking 8x10 photographic film in order to print them in a darkroom. The results look similar to a classic landscape photographs but with a creeping sense of hyperreality. By blending analogue printing techniques with digital renderings, Brumbelow creates a dialogue between real and artificial, past and present.
