When the word “hooker” is used, the majority of people tend to think of females first. In Colin Roberson’s world and images, men are the only hookers being photographed.

In his series Taxi Dance, the photographer shares intimate, energetic and provocative moments with his subjects in the famed French Quarter district of New Orleans. His work is often based on money in exchange for intimacy, showing the range of experiences and emotions that accompany it. Defined as, “Taxi-dance: U.S., a dance at which a partner may be hired.,” Roberson’s series also entails text from famous authors, researchers, his personal observations, and recordings of stories told to him, which can be heard on his website. Roberson currently volunteers at a collectively run space, the New Orleans Community Print Shop and Darkroom. They keep screen printing and Black and white film processing and printing facilities open to the public.
