Pink rules everything around Signe Pierce, as well as Neon and anything surrounding around that Miami Vice vibe. The multi-disciplinary artist based in Los Angeles has in her young age created a unique visual language using photography and video as her medium. Her “social experiment” video American Reflexx created with her partner Alli Coates, is by far her most challenging piece of work and for us difficult to watch. The short film documents Pierce who silently walks around Myrtle Beach, South Carolina dressed like a stripper and wearing a reflective mask. This simple performance incites many passers-by to harass, verbally and physically assault her, with one girl pushing her to ground. Among many things, Pierce’s video sadly shows how reactionary, fearful and ugly people can be with something that is foreign to what they know.
