Navel gazing can get a little old, so, in the coming weeks (months?), as we find ourselves counting the hours till lunchtime on the sofa, we look for productive and creative ways to spend our days. In hopes of inspiring each other, we’ll be sharing some projects by photographers who have used the medium to explore the crevices and vistas of their home or neighborhood.

Today we shuffle the inspiration file and revisit a cherished photography resource that rarely leaves our desk: The Photographer's Playbook. Chock-full of invaluable advice, ideas, and stories about all things photography, the book features 307 assignments by some of the most renowned paractioners, publishers, curators, and professors in the game. We've selected a few that embody our sheltered state of stasis.

Edited by Jason Fulford and Gregory Halpern and published by Aperture, The Photographer's Playbook contains advice, exercises and insight from John Baldessari, Tim Barber, Philip-Lorca diCorcia, Jim Goldberg, Miranda July, Susan Meiselas, Alessandra Sanguinetti, Stephen Shore, Alec Soth, Mark Steinmetz, Roger Ballen, David Campany, Asger Carlson, Ari Marcopoulos, Todd Hido, and many more.
