Rosa Rendl

July 06, 2014

In her first solo exhibition HOW ALIVE ARE YOU, photographer Rosa Rendl captures notions of loneliness and emptiness; feelings often hidden behind veils of consumerism or online hyper-socialism in our contemporary society. With a stunning and gorgeous colour palette, her still life shots look to make both iconic objects from our everyday lives: a mobile phone, a box of spar matches and a cigarette and the more high-end consumables such as a Jaguar ad campaign and set of champagne flutes, the focal point of our attention. With an enviable skill Rendl manages to match these seemingly discordant items with a strange continuity in an exploration of what she terms ‘sobriety and emptiness.’
